Dear Benton Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am really looking forward to beginning my second year here at Benton.
I have worked in education for thirteen years, having been a
reading specialist and coach, classroom teacher, and now administrator. My
academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood
Education, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Education
Specialist in School Administration.
My decision to become an administrator came from a strong
desire to have an impact on the entire school community, coupled with the
desire to help grow teachers professionally. I believe a great school is the
result of great teachers. Great teachers provide a safe and nurturing
environment where children are encouraged to think outside the box and be
problem solvers.
I am returning to Columbia after having lived in St. Louis, Boston,
and Kansas City. I am thrilled to be back home and closer to my family and
friends. I was born and raised not far from Columbia, in Moberly. I already
feel a strong connection to Benton and this neighborhood as my grandma grew up
in a house right down the street from here. I remember driving by the house as
a child and imagining my grandma as a little girl, living there, and walking
down the street to attend school at Benton.
I look forward to meeting you all as the year progresses. Feel
free to stop in and say hello, my door is always open. My office is located on the third floor, room 301. I am here to
support you in any way possible.
Sincerely,
Alaina Mayfield
